Gone are the days when slavery was real in Africa.

In the 15th century, the transatlantic slave trade movement started with Europeans buying Africans to cultivate their own land and shortly after it became a thing of taking them back to their countries via the Atlantic Ocean and selling them to their noblemen there.
I recently visited the Badagry Heritage Museum in Badagry where I got to see for myself a few pictures of advertorials for the sale of slaves and believe me, it riled me up that human beings and Africans were treated like non-living things, almost like they didn’t exist. According to the tour guide there, 300 slaves were taken every market day (once in five days) in Lagos and 100 slaves in Calabar. (These are where the slave markets existed in Nigeria).
So these able bodied men and women (or Negroes as they were called) were advertised via posters for sale. The ones with extra abilities had them indicated on the posters and were sold at more expensive rates.
So I went digging and here are some of the few posters I found
1. Look at the language “To Be Disposed Of”
2. A whopping 620 human beings.
3. Obviously stating their features, for a greater bid.
4. Imagine this. Her nine months child is at the purchaser’s option.
5. To think that this even happened irritates me a lot
6. Calling people to patronise him and his wares.
7. Men and women, boys and girls alike.
8. Turns out that there were even two grades of bidders.
9. Ugh.
10. These ones were 11 years old. Oh wow
